About Elana
Elana van Deventer is a speaker and the founder of WellMinds Consulting Inc. She is a Certified Neurocycle® Facilitator, trained and certified by Dr. Caroline Leaf. Her work lives where faith, neuroscience, and the everyday practice of taking our thoughts captive and renewing the mind meet.
Elana helps people understand why they think, feel, and respond the way they do. She has a heart for making familiar biblical truths like taking thoughts captive and renewing the mind feel practical and doable, grounded in neuroscience and held with real compassion. She also speaks to the beauty of God-given design, helping people understand the way they think, process, feel, and respond so they can stop seeing themselves as broken and begin partnering with how God uniquely created them.
Much of her teaching comes back to one simple distinction: the fruit, the root, and the courage to ask why. The fruit is what we can see on the surface, the reactions, behaviours, and patterns we keep trying to fix. But the fruit is often the result of the root: the deeper beliefs, wounds, and meanings quietly shaping it.
As someone who immigrated from South Africa to Canada, Elana also speaks honestly about identity, belonging, worthiness, and the courage it takes to stop waiting for permission and walk through the doors God has already opened.
Her style is warm, practical, and gently honest, marked by a touch of South African humour and the kind of clarity that helps people feel both seen and equipped. People tend to leave with language for what they’ve been carrying and a real next step toward clarity, stability, and hope.
Additional Leadership Framework
Elana is also the creator of iSOS™, the Inner Stability Operating System. a Faith-integrated, neuroscience-grounded framework that helps leaders, teams, ministries, and organizations build inner stability in every changing and challenging environments.
Through iSOS™, she equips people with practical tools for identity stability, emotional regulation, and cognitive clarity so they can lead with greater wisdom, conviction, and steadiness in challenging environments.
Her leadership work is also informed by executive education in neuroscience, business, leadership, and wellness through Wharton, MIT Sloan Executive Education, and Harvard Medical School Executive Education.

Still Stuck After Doing the Work: Faith, Neuroscience, and Healing at the Root
What do you do when you’ve prayed about it, journaled about it, gone to counseling, read the books, tried harder, and somehow the same pattern keeps showing up? In this talk, Elana gives language to the deeper reason surface-level change often doesn’t last. She walks audiences through the difference between managing the fruit, the reactions, behaviors, and patterns we can see, and healing at the root, the beliefs, meanings, and thought patterns quietly driving them. Weaving together Scripture, neuroscience, and practical mind-management tools, Elana invites people into a more compassionate, God-rooted path to renewal. Audiences leave with hope, clarity, and the courage to stop shaming themselves for being stuck and start asking why.
When the Door Is Open: Faith, Neuroscience, and the Beliefs That Keep Us Waiting for Permission
Sometimes the real question isn’t whether God has opened the door, but whether we believe we’re allowed to walk through it. Drawing from her own story of immigrating from South Africa to Canada, Elana speaks to identity, belonging, worthiness, and the quiet fear of being too much or not enough. She helps audiences see how the desire for more, more purpose, more courage, more impact, more freedom, can sometimes get tangled with the belief that who they are right now is not enough. Blending biblical truth and neuroscience, Elana explores how past experiences and repeated thought patterns shape what we pursue, avoid, and allow ourselves to receive. She invites people to stop abandoning themselves at the edge of breakthrough and ask a braver question: What am I believing about myself that is keeping me from fully stepping into who God created and called me to be? This talk is especially meaningful for those navigating transition, calling, leadership, or the feeling that God may be inviting them into more, but something inside still feels stuck.
Taking Thoughts Captive: The Practical Science of Renewing the Mind
Scripture tells us to take every thought captive and be transformed by the renewing of our minds, yet most of us were never shown what that actually looks like on an ordinary Tuesday. In this talk, Elana connects biblical truth with neuroscience to explain how thoughts form, how patterns are reinforced, and how renewal becomes something we can practice. She unpacks how awareness creates choice, how repetition helps rewire the brain, and how faith gives the process a foundation of hope. Audiences walk away with practical, evidence-informed tools to notice their thoughts, process hard emotions, and partner with God in the slow, real work of change. The heart of it is simple: you don’t have to be ruled by your thoughts, and renewing your mind can become something you know how to do.
